Sean Murphy Obituary, Death - Beloved Rhode GAA Family Member Dies Peacefully in His 84th Year

Sean Murphy of Rhode has passed away peacefully in his 84th year at Tullamore Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

His death has brought great sadness to the Murphy family, the Rhode community and the wider Rhode GAA family, where several generations of the Murphy family have made a valued and lasting contribution.

Sean Murphy Remembered by His Family

Sean was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, as well as his brothers Joe and Oliver and his sisters Maggie and Ann-Jane.

He will be deeply missed by his children Caroline, Oliver, Christopher and Stephen, along with their partners Seamus, Tracey, Mag and Nicola.

Sean was also a cherished grandfather to Dábhin, Sean, Jack, Ryan, Owen, Cillian, Ordhán, Tadhg and Féila. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers Tom, Seamus and Willie, his sister Mary, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

A Proud Connection to Rhode GAA

The Murphy family’s association with Rhode GAA stretches across several generations and has played an important part in the club’s history.

Sean’s late father, Willie Murphy, was a member of Rhode teams that achieved Senior Football Championship honours, helping establish a family connection with the club that has continued over the years.

Sean’s brother Seamus has also dedicated many years to Rhode GAA. He previously served as club Secretary and currently holds the position of Vice-President.

Sean’s sons Oliver and Christy both represented Rhode in adult hurling. Oliver has additionally served as Vice-Chairman and remains involved with the Senior team management, while his wife Tracey has served as Minor Secretary.

Sean’s son Stephen has also contributed to the club through his involvement with both the Junior A and Junior B teams.

The family’s longstanding involvement reflects the significant contribution the Murphys have made to Rhode GAA and the wider community.

Sean Murphy Funeral Arrangements

Sean will repose at his home, Eircode R35 KP71, on Sunday, September 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m. at St Peter’s Church, Rhode, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Rhode Community Mourns Sean Murphy

Rhode GAA and Rhode Ladies Football have extended their sincere sympathy to the Murphy family following Sean’s passing.
