Carolyn King Currin Obituary, Death – Beloved Nurse and Mother Dies Peacefully at Home at 68
Carolyn King Currin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and longtime nurse, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the age of 68.
Born on June 22, 1958, in Dillon, South Carolina, Carolyn was the daughter of Ned King and Lurline King. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, family devotion and kindness that will continue through the many lives she touched.
Carolyn King Currin’s Nursing Career
Carolyn graduated from South Granville High School in 1976 before attending nursing school in 1980. She went on to build a remarkable 40-year career at John Umstead Hospital, dedicating four decades of her life to caring for others.
Her commitment to helping people extended beyond her professional responsibilities. Carolyn also volunteered as a leader with both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, giving her time and guidance to young people in her community.
A Woman Who Loved Family and the Outdoors
Outside of work and volunteering, Carolyn found joy in simple moments spent outdoors and with the people she loved.
She enjoyed tending to her small garden, fishing, camping and cooking over campfires. These activities became especially meaningful when she could share them with her two children, grandchildren and other young people.
Family traditions were also an important part of Carolyn’s life. She looked forward to annual trips to the mountains each fall and visits to White Lake every May, where the entire family gathered, including her brothers Ronnie and Danny King and their families.
Carolyn’s Faith and Service to Others
Carolyn was a member of Living Word Baptist Church until her passing and had a deep love for her faith.
Her family remembered how she demonstrated that faith through her actions, giving her time, sharing with others and praying for and with those around her. Her devotion to God was an important part of the life she lived and the way she cared for others.
Carolyn is now reunited with her Lord and Savior, a belief that brought comfort to those closest to her.
Family Carolyn King Currin Leaves Behind
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ned and Lurline Goss.
She is survived by her husband, John A. “Joby” Currin; her son, Joby Aaron Currin, and his partner Jade Whitt; and her two grandsons, Tucker and Truitt.
She is also survived by her daughter, April Currin Dixon, and her husband, Seth Dixon, along with her granddaughters Keirra Satterwhite, Kinsley, Kaelyn and Kacey Dixon, all of Stem.
Her family will remember her not only as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, but also as someone who consistently gave her time and care to others.
Carolyn King Currin Funeral Service
A funeral service for Carolyn will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Creedmoor. The service will be conducted by Rev. Blaine Britt and Rev. Mike Vaughan.
Interment will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. before the service.
Later that evening, the family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the home of April and Seth Dixon in Stem.
Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Currin, Seth Dixon, Danny King Jr., Will Fisher, Eddie Abbott and Talon King.
